The NYT wants to assure skeptics that yes, Elizabeth Edwards, not her sleazy trial lawyer husband, urged him to continue his tenth-tier campaign.
Not only have other wives of candidates and wives of presidents had health problems, but we also know various presidents have had health problems they wanted kept secret from the public. That doesn't matter, though.
A moron quoted in the article claims the Edwardses revealed Elizabeth's health problems for purely political reasons.
The only "political" part of this is the fact critics and their media flacks simply don't want John Edwards as president, and this announcement has thrown a monkey wrench into their strategy of ignoring his campaign. They can't ignore the campaign, at least not right now.
