If I were a conspiracy theorist, I would just about bet this was the deal. How in the HELL could this board pick somebody who was obviously a joke in both Washoe and Clark counties (and probably Chicago as well)?
How in the hell could somebody like Scott Kelley say something so goddamned stupid as this (from Teachers.net):
Board member Scott Kelley said in the rgj blog: "Hi everyone, let's
please give Pedro a warm welcome to WCSD. Pedro was the best man [sic--there were two women finalists] for the job, which means he was selected for many reasons. Also, the school board interviewed 5 candidates, attended townhall meetings with them, watched them during school tours, and received lengthy surveys with dozens of citizen comments at the end of each day. We also received numerous emails and phone calls from people.
Pedro was the front runner for most people.
In the article, he said: "I think that (Martinez) is now ready….” WCSD board member Scott Kelley said. “He’s moved a couple of times and he doesn’t want to move anymore. If he came here he’d be here for the long haul.”
Maybe it is this type of stupid thinking that caused Kelley to get his ass handed to him in the election two weeks ago for city council. Not only did he fail to make it on the november ballot, he barely got more votes than a woman who put little effort in
campaigning and spent next to nothing. I hope that the next time Kelley needs surgery, he lets me do it. Yeah, I have no medical training or experience, but I do bring a "different perspective" to the table, just like Pedro.
In case you missed the meeting of the Board of Trustees this morning, here is the link to the video.
Watching it, it is clear the board is made up of a bunch of anti-teacher morons, even those who WERE teachers and administrators. Jane Woodburn, a 34-year career educator, did not get one mention on that video, yet this idiot board went on and on about Pedro. It is clear to me this is a naked pandering to the Latino vote rather than a carefully considered deliberation.
Disgusting.
The equally controversial William Hite was named superintendent of Philadelphia schools. He is a Broadie like Martinez, but at least he has an education background.
