Friday Reads

Rent control measures are just a start in dealing with the massive housing crisis in Oregon.  Another problem is the lack of decent paying jobs which make it hard to begin with to afford any housing.

What idiot "libertarians" can't understand is housing is a human right and not  a privilege.  Having shelter is a matter of life and death.  It isn't a matter of "what the market will bear."  That bullshit argument doesn't hold water.   It has been tried, and it has failed.

A couple of obituaries to note:

Consumer reporter David Horowitz, 81, not to be confused with the one-time leftist who decided his bread was better buttered by the far right, died from dementia complications.

He was frequently seen on television during the 1970s and 1980s, especially with his "Fight Back" reports.

Another death to note was the reported death of Clark Gable III, grandson of the acting legend, at his home in Texas.  He was only 30 years old and the father of an 17-month old daughter.

Gable III, who unlike his father John Clark Gable resembled his grandfather a great deal, hosted a reality television series called Cheaters.  He also had a number of other projects in the works at the time of his death.

Gable was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead at 9.11am on Friday morning at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner is waiting for Gable’s body to arrive, and an autopsy is scheduled for Saturday, according to The Blast.

He was also an actor and was in Dallas at the time of death filming a project, sources tell the outlet.

He had no known prior health conditions.

I have read he did indeed have health issues such as diabetes. His family also had a history of heart disease with both his paternal grandfather and grandmother having died of heart failure, and his grandmother's oldest son having died of the disease as well.

However, he was known to have substance abuse issues over the years.  I believe an autopsy is planned.
