There WILL be a Kentucky Derby on the first Saturday of May after all.  It is a "virtual" running, with computer simulations.

At least the animal "rights" people won't be around to bitch.

The Triple Crown races are planned for later in the summer.  There will be the Preakness, then the Belmont, and finally the Kentucky Derby.

This would NOT surprise me at all.

More than 20 percent of New York City residents tested positive for coronavirus antibodies in a study launched by Governor Cuomo which, if accurate, means as many as 1.7million people have been infected in the city.

The study took samples from 3,000 randomly selected people across the state who were chosen at grocery stores and had their blood taken via a finger print test that the state's health department made.

It remains unknown how accurate it is. While private companies have given exact percentages for how accurate their own tests are, when questioned about their test, the NY health department, when questioned, said only that theirs was 'very accurate'.

Statewide, the virus prevalence was 13.9 percent but it was far higher in New York City, where 21.2 percent tested positive.

Colorado officials announced the oldest cold case ever in the world that has been solved through genetic genealogy.

Coloradans don’t have to look far to find the world’s oldest cold case to be solved using genetic genealogy.

Officials in Jefferson County made that announcement Thursday involving a homicide that happened when John F. Kennedy was president.

It has been almost 57 years since Margaret “Peggy” Beck, 16, was raped and killed at a Girl Scout camp in Jefferson County. DNA evidence led to an arrest warrant being issued.

James Raymond Taylor would be 80 years old now. He is being sought by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on suspicion of sexual assault and murder.

However, it is not known if he is still alive. His whereabouts haven't been known for some 44 years.

More about the Beck case:

Before the news conference, investigators explained how the methodology was used in the investigation.

“In 2007, a John Doe DNA profile was created from evidence originally collected from the crime scene, and the profile was entered into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS),” the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office stated. “In June 2019, a more comprehensive profile was created and submitted for investigative genetic genealogy testing. The resulting investigation into leads gained from the testing led to the identity of Peggy’s killer.”

Along those lines, a Sacramento cold case dating back to 1981 has also been solved.  The named killer died the following year.

It was justice of sorts, as the killer himself was murdered.  Good riddance..
