Lassen Volcanic National Park

Yesterday I visited Lassen Volcanic National Park, which is about 45 miles east of Redding, California, on Highway 44.  It was a beautiful day up there, in the upper 70s.  Much of the park, almost all of it in the backcountry off the main road except for the southwest end, was damaged by the Dixie Fire of two years ago.  Fortunately, almost all of the main attractions on the main road remain intact, especially on the west side of the road.

A few pictures to share:

Manzanita Lake.  I hiked around this lake yesterday in kind of a tribute to my one-time landlord in Reno, who I believe likely passed away sometime in the past two years.  If he were alive today, he would be 99 next month.

Chaos Crags in photo immediately below:

There was still a little bit of snow, especially around Lake Helen, and somebody decided to make a small snowman near the shore:

Kings Creek, my favorite spot in the park.  Almost directly across from it are burned remains of trees from the Dixie Fire:

Some of the damage from the Dixie Fire.  I took these two as I was leaving the park:
