I suspect starting tomorrow there will be more of a trickle of endorsements, with a flood the last two weeks leading up to election day.

I haven't lived in Nevada for two years now, but I still am interested in politics down there though not posting much on this blog about it anymore. Apparently, Senator Dean Heller did absolutely shitty in his debate the other night with challenger Rep. Shelley Berkley. He may be lucky, however, the debate followed the epic VP debate, so relatively few people saw the Nevada debacle:

I did appreciate Heller's attempt at recovery — suggesting Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval should be appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court. That was a nice payback for the guy who appointed Heller to the U.S. Senate.

Do we now know Sandoval's true future aspirations? Did Dean let the cat out of the bag? Maybe he was planting a notion on behalf of a political ally and a former federal judge.

God forbid that dingbat would get on the U.S. Supreme Court. Civilization WILL have hit rock-bottom if Sandoval did make it there.

Obituary: Actor and television host Gary Collins has died of natural causes. He was 74 years old, which is relatively young these days.

Collins enjoyed a long, happy marriage to actress and former Miss America Mary Ann Mobley. At least it was a long and happy one for many years: according to Wikipedia, the two separated last year.

Don't think for one minute a dictatorship couldn't flourish in the United States of America.

Look no further than Detroit's Bob Bobb, an Eli Broad goon, who is destroying the city's schools over the objections of parents and teachers.

Last week, layoff notices were sent out to all 5,466 teachers in the Detroit school district. Under a new law signed by Republican governor Rick Snyder, emergency financial managers have dictatorial powers to void collective bargaining agreements, dissolve school boards and other elected bodies, and sell off public assets. Bobb has said he will nullify the labor agreement with teachers next month, enabling him to ignore seniority when choosing which instructors to retain.

Bobb has utterly NO qualifications to run a school system, yet he is allowed unilateral powers.

Time to get rid of this shitbag.

As an aside, Nevada congressman Dean Heller, he of the "hobo" remark fame, actually crossed party lines and voted to extend the deadline on federal unemployment extensions.

Heller must have gotten an earful from constituents.

Nevada has the highest unemployment rate in the country.

NOT everybody in Nevada is like you and is a Mormon who can sponge off the church when you're down on your luck.

Since YOU are part of the problem of not helping to create jobs in this country, you can shove it up your ass about extending unemployment benefits.

It appears the House has voted by voice vote to extend the deadline for EUI for 30 days while a more comprehensive bill can be worked out.

I just hope Harry Reid doesn't screw things up in the Senate.

The benefits are part of a larger package of government programs, from highway funding to loans for small businesses, set to expire Sunday because senators couldn't agree on how to pay for an extension.

The House passed a bill Thursday extending the programs for a month while lawmakers consider how to address the issues long-term. Senate Democrats repeatedly tried to follow suit Thursday night but they couldn't overcome the objections of a single lawmaker, Republican Sen. Jim Bunning of Kentucky, that the $10 billion bill would add to the budget deficit.

I hate that stupid Senate.

for the next couple of days before heading to Oregon for the next couple or so weeks, I found out that "our" (meaning northern Nevada) worthless U.S. representative will NOT be challenging incumbent senator Harry Reid next year.

I guess this guy figures he has it made in the second congressional district. He's probably correct.

Nevada Notes

Dean Heller, as I predicted, handily beat challenger Jill Derby in the District 2 congressional race. The vote was 52 to 41 percent.

It was the bailout vote that did it, I'm afraid. District 2 Nevadans are stuck with a mediocrity once again.

But it wasn't all negative for the Nevada congressional races. State Senator Dina Titus, who ran for governor against Jimbo two years ago and lost, has beaten incumbent Jon Porter in Nevada's third congressional district. The margin was 47 to 42 percent.

Nevada will now have two Democratic representatives, one Republican.

Nevada Congressional Polls

The latest Mason-Dixon poll shows a dead heat between challenger Dina Titus and incumbent representative Jon Porter in Nevada's third district, considered one of the most competitive congressional races in the country.

It's too bad in a way Dina didn't run last time instead of running for governor.

This poll also shows incumbent Dean Heller of Nevada's second district well ahead of challenger Jill Derby, although the latest Reno Gazette-Journal poll showed it a virtual dead heat, with Heller just three points ahead of Derby.

I say the race favors Heller thanks to his bailout opposition, but it'll all depend on turnout.

Derby has to overcome these numbers:

Derby, a former state Democratic chairwoman, lost by 12,575 votes to Heller in 2006. Republicans then held a 48,346 advantage in voter registration in the district, which covers all of rural Nevada, Washoe County and the Mesquite and Nellis Air Force Base areas in Clark County.

Now the Republican advantage in the district is 21,338 voters. Even with their big lead, Heller spokesman Stewart "Mac" Bybee said the campaign is not taking anything for granted.

District 2 Race

Thanks to Obama still being ahead in the polls and the desire to change Washington, Jill Derby has closed the gap against incumbent Dean Heller. Heller was 7 points ahead, but now he's just 3 points. With the MOE at 5 percent, the race could go either way.

I still think Heller is favored for re-election, but I want Derby to win.

This is certainly a switch from a decade ago or even six years ago, when Democrats were not competitive at all in this district from the time it was created in the early 1980s.

A Democrat has NEVER won this congressional seat.

I missed the hour-long debate last night between the two candidates. I like Derby and think she would be far better than Heller, but her flip-flop on the Wall Street bailout probably cost her the election.

Although the Reno Gazette-Journal acknowledges Rep. Dean Heller hasn't done worth a damn as representative, it does note his stand against the bailout and challenger Jill Derby's waffling on the issue gives him the edge.

Derby should NEVER have supported the bailout. I KNEW that was a fatal mistake when she mentioned it in her interview with the paper.

Oh, how the standards have fallen.

Thanks to his calculated vote against the Wall Street bailout, it appears District 2's incumbent representative, Dean Heller, is set to win re-election.

I am not saying Jill Derby, a better candidate in every way, can't win this thing, but Heller's fortunes have risen since his vote.

I Just

returned back from the McCain town hall meeting. There were about 200 or 300 people there; the event wasn't publicized all that much or there would probably have been more people.

It was funny because some of the people I talked with there had also attended the Clinton town hall last Sunday. I guess I am not the only who thinks it is a great thing to have all of these candidates from both political parties here in Nevada campaigning to get our support.

I arrived at the McKinley Center just before 9:00. I was one of the first people there. The McCain campaign got some free donuts from Krispy Creme, and I wound up eating two of them. Naturally I brought my camcorder and two cameras along to record the event.

Since today is Kentucky Derby day, I will post the McCain remarks later in the day. I would say right now that the bulk of the questions he was asked had to do with immigration and Iraq. There were other questions about education and health care, and one silly audience member attacked Senator Reid (for his Iraq proposal) as a "traitor." McCain was clearly taken aback by those comments, for he said he had a lot of respect for Reid, but he simply didn't agree with Reid on this issue.

Oh, I don't want to forget that the successor as congressman to our beloved dipshit governor, Dean Heller, was also present. In fact, he wound up sharing the stage with McCain, hoping against hope some of that heroism would rub off on him. Naturally it didn't.
