Campaign Notes.

Obama tries to explain away Reverend Wright and sinks himself deeper.

This is truly fatal to the remote chance he could ever win. The Republicans could make ads juxtaposing Wright's "God damn America" with Michelle Obama's remarks about being proud of being an American for the first time in her adult life, to her husband's lack of saluting during the national anthem, and on and on.

Making some lame remark about "disagreeing" with some of his "statements" doesn't cut it. Wright is his mentor, Obama has known him for 20 years, and the title of one of his sermons is the title of Obama's second book. It won't work, Barack.

Wright is almost as important to Barack as Michelle.

It's the same thing as his lying about Rezko and dismissing his longstanding relationship with the slumlord.

My God, people, wake up and realize you've been had, once again by the other side.

Reverend Wright is now a worldwide name.

Really, this above everything else that's known about Obama is unfixable. There is all kinds of video out there for the opposition to use. This really and truly sinks him, if not for the primary season then the general election. It's unspinnable since Wright has been an associate and mentor to Obama for 20 years.

Unlike the Swiftboat ads, ads using Wright wouldn't have to be made up. The Republicans could talk about McCain's experience as a prisoner of war and contrast that with Wright's inflammatory rhetoric.

Right now I am reading a book about the 25 dirtiest campaigns in American history. The 2004 fall campaign was ranked 25th. The author wrote only about the campaigns, not the actual elections and the aftermath and therefore did not mention the Ohio debacle and the likelihood the election was stolen from Kerry. Nor does the author write about the 2000 debacle except in passing. He was writing only about campaigns. If Obama gets as far as the general election, that race will be right up there with the Jackson/Adams filth contest of 1824, the 1876 Hayes/Tilden contest, and the Nixon/McGovern campaign of 1972, the last of which is similar to this campaign.
