Once the convention is over and done with, and there is no chance Clinton or anybody else can secure the nomination, John McCain can go home and relax for the final 10 or 11 weeks of the campaign with wife Cindy and let the media and 527s do the dirty work for him.

Virtually the entire West will be a sea of red. Virtually the entire East will be a sea of red. The South will be a sea of red. Alaska and Hawaii will be a sea of red. The territories will be a sea of red. It will be a red map from sea to shining sea. Even D.C. will be in play.

This whole farce of a campaign makes one see red.

Not That It Matters

to Obama's people, but the Wright issue could be and would most likely be a problem for him in the fall, should he get the nomination, according to this poll.

Well, nobody has the balls to point out the obvious to him and to encourage him to get out, and he isn't going to do it anyway because he is still slightly ahead in the delegate count.

If Oprah had enough sense to ditch Jeremiah Wright, why didn't Barack Obama?

She was worried about Wright's alienating message hurting her career, and she felt her own "ministry" of hype was far more effective.

Of course she isn't running for president, either, and didn't feel like she had to prove her solidarity with the African American community.

Not that Obama's appeal was overwhelming with this demographic anyway, but it is even worse now with working-class whites. Wright and other controversies have taken their toll on the candidate.

And Wright warned Obama 20 or so years ago any association with him would not be a "feather in his cap."

The Michael Corleone of politics, Ace Smith, intends to fight tooth and nail for Hillary Clinton to win the Democratic presidential nomination.

Smith has been working in North Carolina, and polls are showing her narrowing the gap with Obama there. If she loses narrowly or even wins the upcoming primary, Smith will get a lot of the credit.

If Obama is harshly denouncing Rev. Jeremiah Wright for his statements now, why did Obama ever join Wright's church in the first place?

Because joining the church was all part of his political calculation to get him on the map in local Chicago politics. Now that Obama has gone national, Wright is being seen as an albatross, although he always was one.

In short, it has to do with Obama's sinking poll numbers in North Carolina and in the country overall.

It may be too little, too late for the Audacity of Hype.

clearly is unhappy with Reverend Wright's comments of yesterday, calling his remarks a "televised train wreck," yet he still tries to spin this mess in support of his candidate:



Unfortunately, Obama has been dead in the water politically for a long time. He had to do something, for a new poll showed the race in North Carolina, truly his last "big" state, tightening.

How he can seriously criticize Wright now when he followed him for 20 years just shows how much Obama is in it for Obama. He will throw people overboard if they don't serve his own political purposes.

Obama tries like hell to distance himself from Reverend Wright, but I think he is digging himself deeper into the quicksand.

Aiming to draw a line under a controversy that has threatened to wreck his bid for the White House, Mr Obama said that Rev Wright did not speak for him or his campaign.

Dismissing the pastor’s performance on Monday at the National Press Club as “a bunch of rants” not “grounded in truth”, Mr Obama said that he had not realized the full extent of the remarks until watching them in full later that evening. On Monday afternoon he had issued a much milder rejection.

At times struggling to contain his emotions, the Illinois senator indicated that he would make a permanent break with the man who turned him on to Christianity.

Too late, Barack. Your campaign has gone into free fall since February.

So is the re-emergence of Reverend Wright designed to derail Barack Obama's chances to win the Democratic nomination once and for all? Newt Gingrich thinks so.

And he may be right as in correct. It appears the good reverend cares more about fame and notoriety than he cares about one of the members of his church.

had a one-sided discussion tonight about the Reverend Wright issue.

You'd think Howard Fineman would have better things to do than blather about things he knows nothing about.



Fineman did make a good point or two about the difficulty of Obama cutting off Wright. Wright is going to be all over the country on a book tour.

Lovely.

No matter what the spin, the reality is Wright is still an albatross hanging around Barack's neck.

I don't know how this is supposed to help Obama. If one were into conspiracies, one would suspect Wright is actually a mole for the Clintons.

may want to keep a low profile if he wants his candidate to be president:

and my protesting to you that I had not shaped him nor formed him, that I
had not mentored him or made him the man he was, even though I would
love to take that credit, you did not print any of that. When I told
you, using one of your own Jewish stories from the Hebrew Bible as to
how God asked Moses, “What is that in your hand?,” that Barack was like
that when I met him. Barack had it “in his hand.” Barack had in his
grasp a uniqueness in terms of his spiritual development that one is
hard put to find in the 21st century, and you did not print that.
