Before

there are thunderclouds coming in, I am going to go out and attempt to hike the Lola Montez lakes near Truckee, California, today. I don't know why there are TWO lakes there named after the famous dancer, actress, and mistress of Franz Liszt and Ludwig I of Bavaria. They could have named one of them after actress Maria Montez (1919-1951), the Queen of Technicolor of 1940s films and one of the worst actresses ever to grace the screen.

Apparently Lola Montez lived in nearby Grass Valley, California, for a time, hence the lakes being named after her.
