During These Tough Times,

it may be less profitable to set up a church than to set up an organization catering to atheists.

The number of people declaring themselves without a religious faith has increased dramatically over the past twenty years. Not all of them are atheists or agnostics, but they are an untapped reservoir of supporters to a nonreligious movement.
