As Usual, It's All About Sexism

 Joseph Epstein is an essayist clearly from a different generation.  He was born in 1937, so he is long in the tooth as it is.  However, that is no excuse for being a sexist asshole who not just denigrates women like Jill Biden, but he clearly thinks education degrees are worthless and "easy" to get, which again is vile sexism.

Education doctorates (Ed.D.) are professional doctorates often obtained when people in the field of education want to go into education administration.  Biden's major is in fact in educational administration.  The difference between this doctorate and the Ph.D. is the former has a shorter dissertation requirement, typically one semester, as opposed to a Ph.D., which requires an entire year to work on a dissertation.  It is also more of a professional doctorate rather than a research doctorate. 

Epstein, though, just has to denigrate Biden because she went into a female-dominated field and got advanced degrees in her field (she has four degrees in all), and has remained there to this day.  She has also indicated she would remain in her job as a teacher, just as she did throughout Joe's tenure in the Senate and the vice-presidency. I don't know how she would be able to do this given the far greater security issues although distance learning is the likely course of action.

Regardless, Dr. Biden can call herself whatever she wants, and there isn't one damned thing an old fart like Joseph Epstein can do about it.

For the record, Bill Cosby may have a number of honorary doctorates, but he, like Jill Biden, has an earned Ed.D.  He earned it years ago from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.  He earned his doctorate in 1976.  His long-suffering wife, Camille, earned a Ph.D. from the same university in 1992.

J.K. Rowling Is Right

What drives me crazy is people are saying she has a right to her "opinion."  It isn't "her opinion" that is under relentless assault by the trans activists and their dipshit allies like Daniel Whatshisname.  She is merely recognizing the material reality of a woman, something men cannot "identify" as.

Some in the real world honestly don't know the issue here.  They don't even understand what an "opinion" is from stating a material FACT.  It isn't "opinions" that are being censored by these deranged people and their handmaidens.  It is FACT that is being suppressed because of "hurt feelings" by the transvestites and crossdressers who make up the "transgender" community.  It is vile woman-hatred that is being exercised here against Rowling and others.  Unlike most others, Rowling is basically untouchable because of her wealth and fame.

Rowling's view is like supporting the existence of gravity, like Galileo recognizing the Earth revolves around the sun, yet she is going through her own inquisition for daring to have a "thought crime."

The political left is so poisoned with queer theory/postmodernist horseshit, I don't know if it could ever recover.  The men have always despised women, at least from the sixties, as can be seen in this video clip from YouTube:

We’re living through the most misogynistic period I’ve experienced. Back in the 80s, I imagined that my future daughters, should I have any, would have it far better than I ever did, but between the backlash against feminism and a porn-saturated online culture, I believe things have got significantly worse for girls. Never have I seen women denigrated and dehumanised to the extent they are now. From the leader of the free world’s long history of sexual assault accusations and his proud boast of ‘grabbing them by the pussy’, to the incel (‘involuntarily celibate’) movement that rages against women who won’t give them sex, to the trans activists who declare that TERFs need punching and re-educating, men across the political spectrum seem to agree: women are asking for trouble. Everywhere, women are being told to shut up and sit down, or else.

I’ve read all the arguments about femaleness not residing in the sexed body, and the assertions that biological women don’t have common experiences, and I find them, too, deeply misogynistic and regressive. It’s also clear that one of the objectives of denying the importance of sex is to erode what some seem to see as the cruelly segregationist idea of women having their own biological realities or – just as threatening – unifying realities that make them a cohesive political class. The hundreds of emails I’ve received in the last few days prove this erosion concerns many others just as much. It isn’t enough for women to be trans allies. Women must accept and admit that there is no material difference between trans women and themselves.

But, as many women have said before me, ‘woman’ is not a costume. ‘Woman’ is not an idea in a man’s head. ‘Woman’ is not a pink brain, a liking for Jimmy Choos or any of the other sexist ideas now somehow touted as progressive. Moreover, the ‘inclusive’ language that calls female people ‘menstruators’ and ‘people with vulvas’ strikes many women as dehumanising and demeaning. I understand why trans activists consider this language to be appropriate and kind, but for those of us who’ve had degrading slurs spat at us by violent men, it’s not neutral, it’s hostile and alienating.

Amen.

She is a little too deferential to the trans mob, and I wouldn't be, and women should never be called "natal women," either, but it is a good piece overall.

It's All About the 1950s

In the end, when it comes to the religious right's support of Trump, it is all about the insane desire to return to the 1950s, an era when white males ruled supreme and unchallenged, and where women and minorities--especially women--knew their "place."  It was a time of greed by white males to hoard resources at the expense of everybody else.

This is what the opposition to abortion is all about, to return to the 1950s.  To denigrate half the human race to glamorize the fetus is par for the course.  Motherhood and marriage were all that defined women during the fifties and long before and still defines them in the eyes of the religious right.  They are simply things for men, the real humans,  to use.

The 1950s, despite the great cars, the great music, the classic television programs, the classic movies, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Little Richard, and Elvis, was not all that for most people.  It was an era of racial segregation still being entrenched despite USSC decisions ordering desegregation, it was an era where women were fired following WW II from male-dominated jobs and forced into the house whether they wanted to or not.  It was an era where an insane amount of children per family were born and when "homemaking" was made into a "career" for women; however, it was absolutely not an option for men, which tells a person everything they need to know about the lionization of women in the home.  Tax laws favoring married people came into the fore, and it goes on and on.  Yes, it was prosperous economically, but it was at the expense of millions of people cut out of the American Dream.

NEVER underestimate the hold this era has and continues to have on the American public.

This severe constriction of life paths back then led directly to the upheaval of the 1960s.  This was the biggest fallout from the era.

The irony is supporting the far right or "libertarianism" supports the further destruction of the standard of living in the United States.  Trump has done nothing to reverse the trend.  Maybe the pandemic will show the folly of believing in neoliberalism/Friedmanism, but I doubt it.  The politicians in both parties have been in love with the discredited and debunked nonsense for years.

Oh, This "Likability" Bullshit

Now presumed presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren is going through what Hillary Clinton did for years.  Now she is not "likable."

This fucking country is totally backward when it comes to women.  Completely and totally backward.  It is still mired in the 1950s bullshit that women's "hormones" prevent them from being leaders of any kind.  Never mind the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.  There are women governors, Nevada has more women in its legislature than men, women are making more inroads in federal offices, and that's for starters.  The plain unvarnished truth is women have been heading countries and empires for centuries, if not thousands of years, if one includes monarchies. The civilizations didn't die because women headed them.

We have a very sexist country in the United States.  Donald Trump's supporters are largely fueled by it (and racism).  This man had no business being anywhere near being a presidential candidate let alone president given he had absolutely NO elected experience, only that he was a media darling and a buddy of Jeff Zucker's.  Zucker, as I have noted previously, was a longtime friend of Trump's going back to Trump's days on the hit NBC show The Apprentice.  The problem is running a country is not a reality TV show--it is reality, and Trump has been a massive, massive failure in this venue.

We have had third world countries that have elected women, and it appears every other country in the world will have had a woman elected president or prime minister before this backward country ever does. It might even be more likely there won't be a United States before a woman is ever allowed to be president. It appears white men in particular have a phobia about this, and it is stupid.

I Am Definitely Not Nostalgic for These Kinds of Ads

I remember all these ads from the 1960s and 1970s, and they were offensive then, and they are even worse now.  You wonder what in the hell the people--men almost entirely then--from the ad campaigns were even thinking.

One of the best parts of the original Ms. magazine was the "No Comment" section at the end of each issue.  Readers would submit newspaper or magazine ads of sexist ads.  They were hilariously awful.  The magazine has since abandoned the feature.

It Bears Repeating

I have said this many times over the years on this blog, but I think after every election it needs to be said again. It is "aggrieved entitlement" of white males, the type who support Republicans in election after election and who form the basis of Trump's support, that is a cancer on American politics. It isn't just racism-sexism is even more the reason. And the thing is, they are lost. You can't change them. Democrats should never pander to them in any way. They believe everything is owed to them just because they are white males. I quit caring about them long ago because these dudes kept voting the wrong way election after election. It's time to cut these men loose and let them die off.

The time for them to have cared about their plight was the 1980s, during the Reagan era, when jobs started going overseas, unions were being gutted, ruinous trade agreements were being signed. I was screaming about this trend 35 years ago. But what were the white dudes doing? Voting for the very politicians who were destroying of their way of life because those politicians fed into these men's sexism and racism. And the destruction of the standard of living was a deliberate policy on the part of the federal government, as it became enthralled with libertarian or neoliberal economic ideas of the crackpot Chicago School, specifically Milton Friedman. The white dudes then were just like the hard hats of the late 1960s forming the basis of Nixon's support and the white dudes of the Trump era now. They are racist, sexist bigots who think the world owes them "family wage" jobs and the "good life." Of course, the "family wage" was a terrible idea, the notion men deserved "family wages" and were given subsidies of much higher pay because they were assumed to have stay-at-home wives. It formed the basis of sex discrimination in the labor force. Women were not allowed "family wages." The "family wage" has largely died out though we still have the discrepancy of pay between men and women and the denigration of women's labor as a result of the "family wage." The mentality is sure alive, as we see in these idiot white dudes who think they are owed.


Women don't owe these men anything since the MRA mentality is also a big part of their "aggrieved entitlement." They need to get off their asses and make something of their lives. These men need to get with the times or get left behind. I quit giving a shit about them.

And what about the idea of trying to persuade these men the answer to their "plight" is government works programs ala FDR to jumpstart the economy? While I totally agree with this, the problem is the white dudes have been so totally brainwashed by right-wing media and politicians to believe government is the problem, it won't make any headway with them. They really and truly are lost.

These men have to die off, and they are numerically now and increasingly the minority in the United States. They long have been the minority but they are not a protected class or oppressed in any way because they are the ones in power. It doesn't matter their specific economic situation. They want to keep their unearned privilege intact and force women and minorities to the economic fringes. Since they are the antithesis of everything the modern Democratic Party stands for, they cannot be pandered to in any way, Bernie Sanders, Thomas Frank, and Michael Moore bullshit to the contrary.

The Continued Poisonous Effect of the "Family Wage" Concept

This 

article about young women being "concerned" about outearning their partners is from a year ago, but it shows one just how poisonous the "family wage" concept remains in our society. Since the mid-1970s, with the massive influx of women into the labor force, especially married mothers, the "family wage" has been increasingly rare, as companies discovered they could hire two workers for the price of one. The fact is men are not naturally providers and women dependents. That mentality forms the basis of every single pernicious thing that affects women, chiefly poverty. Women should not have to rely on men at all in order to survive, but the "family wage" idea had the effect of forcing women into the marriage racket. Male-dominated jobs have been overpaid because of the "family wage" subsidy, not because the jobs are more skilled, harder, require more education, and so on. It is only because men do it. They are still considered by employers to need the extra money more than women do because in their eyes, women are supported by husbands. We know this because when women dominate a field, the pay immediately goes down. Entire occupations dominated by women are underpaid because of the poisonous "family wage" idea.

Amazing any millennials have 1950s-style attitudes about earnings. Jobs should not be paid because of the sex or family status of an individual.

Jordan Peterson Actually Supports Male Sex Right

This crackpot got a big write-up in the New York Times, and he displayed even more vile bullshit than usual.  He believes that in order prevent violence by single men, women should be coerced to marry them.

Never mind many, many married men are violent to their wives, including raping them.  In this crackpot's world, sexual frustration is the cause of single men's violence, and only marriage can cure them.

Why is this fucking idiot even given a forum?  He is actually proposing women be coerced in marriage and in effect be raped.  He believes men are entitled to sex when men aren't entitled to shit from women.

Stating the Obvious

I don't need articles like this one telling me what I have long known about our economy.

The system is rigged so that women have to avail to the marriage racket. Women are underpaid on purpose in order to force them into economic dependence on men and men get sexual access and free domestic labor in return. This is why women make up by far the biggest group of poor people. Marriage is the major means of upward mobility for women, and our society doesn't question it at all.

I don't need to read a book trying to explain the obvious. Second-wave feminists heavily criticized the "family wage" system pushed by unions and churches like the Catholic church because women not only were kept out of fields dominated by men, but the work that they did do was completely denigrated in pay.

This is why "equal pay for equal work" doesn't truly address the issue because men's pay has always been inflated thanks to the "family wage" concept that still influences our economy despite the fact fewer and fewer jobs pay "family wages." Most "male jobs" should pay little more than minimum wage.

The Cult of "Masculinity" is the Problem

While most men are not killers, almost all mass killers are men.  This is just one of the many excellent points Gary Younge makes in his piece for the Guardian.  It is time to look at the Toronto mass murders for what they are, and that is they are hate crimes.

Murders against women by men, since they are so fairly common, aren't considered forms of terrorism.  But this Alek Minassian  is a terrorist just the same.  

Younge gets right to the point about what the issue is:

It is debatable how widespread the cult of Rodger might be. But the issues of misogyny and inadequacy that drive men to it characterise a far broader and deeper problem that helps to explain male violence.

On the one hand, there is the hatred of women, born for the most part from a sense of entitlement. These men do not just resent the fact that they can’t get a girlfriend. They feel women are denying them the sex that is rightfully theirs. They belong to broadly the same demographic as the Gamergate movement earlier this decade, in which male gamers systematically harassed female game developers and media critics, subjecting them to rape and death threats, and publishing details of their personal lives online. 

These men, wherever they are, now have more political space than they used to. There is considerable overlap with the American hard right. And they have a role model in the White House in a president who was accused of rape by his first wife, boasts of grabbing women by the genitals, makes up sexual stories about womenon the internet, and openly disparages their looks and intellect. In the 2005 book TrumpNation, the future president tells Timothy O’Brien his favourite part in Pulp Fiction is when “Sam [Jackson] had his gun out in the diner and he tells the guy to tell his girlfriend to shut up: ‘Tell that Bitch to be cool.’ Say, ‘Bitch be cool.’ I love those lines.”

The gender--sex role--of masculinity is the problem.  As Younge concludes, it is feminism that helps to liberate men from the stifling sex roles, but these guys just don't understand it.  Or maybe more likely, these guys don't want to lose all the benefits--entitlement--that masculinity provides.

We Need to Take These Crimes Seriously

These "incels" are not men to feel sorry for--they are committing hate crimes against women.

Thanks to their upbringing and addiction to porn, these assholes think they have a "right" to have sex.  They don't.  Women aren't fuck toys, they aren't incubators, and they aren't maids.  These men need to work on their social skills before they can even think about having relationships with women.

We women have enough to deal with in this world without more deranged dudes threatening or committing violence because they think they are entitled.

We women don't owe you men anything--ever.

We need to take these hate crimes seriously.

Incel boards have reacted to the Yonge Street massacre in different ways, but incels.me has users declaring the date of the attack “an absolutely glorious day”, celebrating the death of D’Amico, and hoping that there’s more violence to come. These spaces are puerile, yet they normalise violent misogyny and have the potential to radicalise socially isolated or vulnerable men. Some of the users are in it for the lulz; some of them are not joking. The latter become the Umpqua Community College murderer, the Isla Vista murderer, the Yonge Street killer. There’s a pattern here, and we can’t keep ignoring it.

These "incel" boards should be removed from any website.  They are training grounds for murderers and other criminals.

Good Thing Sex Robots Appear to Be a Possibility

Since males are so much better than females, especially in countries like India and China, there is a glut of males to females that approaches 70 million.

That is a staggering total, and it is ominous the ramifications of this boy preference by dipshit parents who live in societies where it is expected males are providers for families, including their own parents and in-laws, into old age.

It means even more denigration of women and more crime.

Sexist Academics Should Not Be Given a Forum

So-called clinical psychologist and academic from Canada, Jordan Peterson, 55, is being defended because a British interviewer caught him in lie after lie, contradicting himself constantly.  I watched the goddamned thing, and the idiot never should have been given a forum in the first place.  He is much beloved in "men's rights" circles, but he is truly an idiot.

I was horrified that Channel 4 has allowed comments following its upload of this interview--this is not a "debate." Jordan Peterson has no business being given a forum. If he were a racist, and he likely is one, he would not be given a forum at all. It's okay, though, to spout off sexist nonsense. He is an idiot, totally out of his depth, and it makes me wonder how he ever got his Ph.D. It is pretty obvious why the pay gap, sex discrimination, the notion of the family wage, primary and secondary wage earners, and the denigration of female-dominated occupations exist, and they have nothing to do with his bogus explanations, which I have heard for over FIFTY years, back when women had markedly different workforce participation than they do now. In the U.S., the pay gap has narrowed to about 21 cents less on the dollar gap (79 cents to the male dollar), but that is solely because "male" jobs have been outsourced thanks to ruinous trade agreements and the gutting of unions than with any real progress with women's economic status. No, it is much more basic. We need to tell the truth. The sexist assumption men are providers and women are dependents lies at the root of all the rot against women in the labor force. If you as an employer see women as dependents, then you can in good conscience pay them less because they are being supported by husbands. This attitude in turn coerces women into marriage and economic dependency, which is the goal of all this. Men in turn get the all-important sexual access and free domestic labor. The reason for women's denigration in the labor force is so obvious. You don't have to read Frederick Engels or Carole Pateman's "The Sexual Contract" to see the truth. All other explanations are complete and total nonsense.


The only reason this idiot has gained prominence was noted at the end of the interview, when he spouted off his objection to pronoun thought crimes as defined by the trans mob. He was hailed as being the next anti-PC hero. It wasn't long before his woman-hating bullshit gained him a cult following among the white dude contingent who also follow their hero Donald Trump.

The "stupid man's smart person" is a good description of this character.

This Is the 21st Century, For Crying Out Loud

I am on a "roll" today writing a few words for the first time in many months because I have been so distracted into doing other things. This goddamned article makes my fucking blood boil.

Why? Because here we are in the second decade of the 21st century, yet the angle of this article is smack out of the 1950s with the old women's magazines and "women's pages" of newspapers until newspapers did away with them, retooled them, and now call them "lifestyle" sections. We have in this article a woman who spent her career mountaineering and enjoying her life, and what does this piece of shit of a writer do? The writer slants Lydia Bradey's story as her "struggle" to get herself sterilized in her twenties so she could pursue her athletic career. And, of course, Bradey has no regrets about doing so, now that the ship has long since sailed being 55 years old now.

Isn't this just terrible? A woman decides, like yours truly, to jettison patriarchy's belief her only purpose in life to be some man's fuck toy, incubator, and servant and pursue other things, and this author thinks this is the worst thing in the world. Bradey was going to adopt to "prove" herself she wasn't some self-centered ogre, but then, she changed her mind. The selfish witch wanted to go back to the mountains.

The fact this article was written at all just makes my blood boil. Articles about men are never given this slant.

I am sick of articles condemning women who bypass their so-called feminine role. Make no mistake. This author IS condemning women for this believing as the author does women must "have it all" or they are nothing. Or, alternatively, a job or career is an optional choice, but women had better do the wife and mommy route or forever be lonely and a loser.

Good the BSA Did This

I think it is great the BSA has decided to open its membership. I don't like the "othering" of the opposite sex, and young children should not be trained to do it. "Othering" lies at the root of sexism, especially on the part of males. I work with young children, kindergartners, and it is great they play together and treat each other as equals. "Othering," along with sex roles ("gender"), are poison. The BSA had declining enrollment, so it had to open its membership further. They already have the Explorers coed. This shouldn't be a big deal at all. I suspect one day, the GSA and BSA will merge like they have in other countries.

Assuming that’s a genuine question, I may have an answer. A constant tension among human-rights advocacy is whether to focus on protection or freedom. Nowhere is the debate more heated than on questions of gender and sexuality. There are times when it is necessary to highlight differences among groups of people, and there are times when it’s beneficial to downplay differences. When calling out discrimination and injustice predicated on such a difference, it needs to be discussed frankly. When the difference is being named to excuse injustice, it’s better to emphasize what everyone has in common.

The separate-but-equal approach casts women as a group to be respected and protected but understood as deeply other. It also reinforces the idea of two monolithic genders that interact in a particular way.

I don't believe in single-sex education, either, for the same reason. "Othering" lies at the root of sexism.

It Ain't Male "Fragility"

NOT "fragility." It is freaking ENTITLEMENT. These white dudes, which also include the likes of the equally sexist Berniebros, think that because they are white males, they are entitled to high-paid, "family wage" jobs without ever having to make an effort to work for it or get the education. Anybody who was alive when affirmative action first was instituted knows how angry the white dudes were because they thought they got their jobs through "merit," while women and minorities were getting in who were less "qualified" and had to be part of a "quota." Never mind the fact there is NO such thing as "merit," and men, especially white men, are not entitled to jobs because of their physical characteristics. Now thanks to neoliberal economic policies that have all but destroyed the living-wage base, in large part because of these white male dude idiots keeping voting for those politicians who screw them over, more and more of the white dudes can't cut it with the jobs remaining. You have no right as a white dude to jobs any more than I do as an older female, let alone those jobs that pay a living wage. The world has changed. Deal with it, dudes and quit throwing hissy fits because you are no longer at the top of the economic heap.

Sexism is even more the case with the alt.right than racism.

The blue-collar dudes and their wives who voted for this union-busting shitbag and his union-hating party deserve everything they get. Unfortunately, these morons drag the rest of us down with them.

They have been brainwashed for decades, ever since Nixon exploited the "hard hats" by using racist code. These morons constantly bitch about the blacks or the "illegals" or the women "stealing" "their" jobs away from them, all the while they vote for the very people who put through ruinous trade agreements and vote for the destruction of living standards in the country.

I am supposed to have "compassion" for these idiots? Years and years ago I did, but now, nearly two decades into the 21st century, it is long past due to not give a shit about them anymore.

A common theme that’s being tossed around is that Trump’s election was the white working class’ chance way to say “F**k you!” to the political elites who forgot about them, sucked up their factory jobs and left them out to dry. I take issue with this for a number of reasons.

The first and most obvious reason is this: How do you buck a system ruled by elites by electing a billionaire who was born rich, employed the Mexicans he blamed for taking jobs away and could never possibly understand someone else’s struggle? Next, I don’t fully understand the term “hard-working whites.” I come from the blackest community in one of the blackest cities, and I don’t know how not to have 10 jobs. Everybody I know has 10 jobs, even the infants. Black people, Asians and Mexicans alike work their asses off, so why is the “hard-working white” class even a voting bloc?

These jackasses keep voting the wrong way. Fuck them all. Cut them loose. Racism and sexism have no place in the 21st century. They never did but certainly not now.

Cry Me a Goddamned River

Lots and lots of ignorant people keep voting against their economic interests. Trump and the GOP are going to do anything to help them? How stupid can they get? These white dudes are a bunch of sexist, racist jerks who think they deserve the best jobs just because they are white males. They can't be reached, so Dems need to just not bother with them. These guys keep voting the wrong way decade after decade. Let 'em wither and die. I stopped feeling sorry for them years ago because these morons or their fathers or grandfathers voted for Reagan, whose policies began the wholesale destruction of living standards.

If they are that dumb after thirty-five years not to understand what happened to this country, that it isn't the fault of immigrants (legal and illegal), women, and minorities their living standards have plummeted, then they are beyond hope. They are willfully stupid.

The only way these white dudes will ever come around is if we have another Great Depression. It has to be that bad for any sense at all to be knocked into their stupid heads.
