Obituary: Elizabeth Warren's Campaign

The biggest news of the day, save for any further coronavirus news, is the death by delegate starvation Elizabeth Warren's quest for the White House, which was probably doomed to die from the beginning, since she had to constantly talk about how she was going to pay for Medicare for All and also about her views on a wealth tax.

She was usually right on the issues except for being so damned dumb when it came to the trans issue.  She went out of her way to alienate women with that bullshit, and it is a loser if any candidate is dumb enough to promote it.  Warren had to be getting oodles of Pritzker money to make a complete jackass out of herself on this.

I was an early donor and supporter of her campaign, but I knew the minute Joe Biden decided to throw his hat into the ring, the campaign was really over.  At 70 she is too old to be considered VP material, and I am guessing Biden will likely pick Amy Klobuchar as his running mate.  She is ten years younger than Warren and would not be too old by the time she would run for president as a sitting VP.

Elizabeth Warren's campaign was her first and only shot.  She was overshadowed by somebody with a tremendous resume with well over forty years, closer to fifty, in governmental experience plus was a former vice president. Now time for an aside:   Vice presidents as a rule are almost never rejected as presidential nominees.  The big exception was Hubert Humphrey.  He ran for president in 1952 and 1960, and then as a sitting vice president in 1968 (for which he was nominated), and finally as a former vice president in 1972 and 1976.  I am sure that isn't the record for presidential runs, but it is up there.  Five times he ran, and he never won.  The closest he came was in 1968, but Nixon made goddamned sure Humphrey would not win when he, through third parties, sabotaged the Paris Peace Talks.  HHH was also a target of Nixon's dirty tricks in 1972.  By 1976, however, HHH was getting old, and it wasn't long before cancer ended an otherwise stellar career as a public servant.  I miss HHH, a true liberal, a lot.

So this was Warren's first and only shot for the job.  She is going to have to work to keep her Massachusetts Senate seat given how badly she was beaten Tuesday by both Biden--who spent only 11 grand in the state--and Bernie Sanders.  That should be her focus now.

Here is an analysis of why Medicare for All wrecked Warren's campaign but not Sanders'.  I think it is obvious.  Warren at one time had a realistic shot at the nomination, while Sanders was never considered a serious contender.  He certainly isn't that now.

Moron doesn't understand Warren's resume is very, very thin when it comes to elected political office experience. Sanders, though a grifter, has around 30 years in Congress (while achieving little), while Biden has about FIFTY years of experience in public office, including being vice president of the United States and assisted Obama in the area of foreign policy. Warren's resume comes up short by comparison.

The Day After Super Tuesday

While I was asleep, it appeared Biden won Texas while Maine still remained a tossup. 

Sanders supposedly won California, but his margin wasn't as expected, and there are still millions of ballots outstanding before the final apportionment of delegates can be determined.

In other words, Sanders got the shit kicked out of him after all the media hype he was going to run the table last night.  Warren also got trounced, most embarrassingly in her own state, a state where winner Biden spent just $11,000 in.  She came in third there.

Was it because she was a woman?  Was it because voters there were pissed off she ran for president in the first place? Did voters want her to remain in the Senate rather than go on a fool's quest?    Or was her pandering to transactivists at the expense of women's rights a factor, as she was the ONLY candidate who went out of her way to pander to them?  Pete Buttigieg did not do this, but Warren would pander to these people almost on a daily basis to the point it was embarrassing when she read off the names of the very, very, very few "trans women" (i.e., male crossdressers) who were murdered as opposed to the names of the 1,600 WOMEN who are murdered each year because of domestic violence.  It was very alienating to women like me and one of the reasons I rejected her candidacy early on.

I think the biggest reason Sanders got the shit kicked out of him last night lies in the simple fact there were and are very few caucuses this time around.  Sanders and his goons got to pack the caucuses last time, and packing those caucuses plus winning the California primary in 2016 made him competitive with the eventual winner, Hillary Clinton.  One of the reforms Clinton proposed after the 2016 elections was eliminating the caucus system.  The caucus system is too flawed, though fun to participate in, with peer pressure more than candidate support being the important factor in the selection of said candidate.

Sanders will remain in the contest to try and further ratfuck the Democratic Party and sow division in its ranks.  His ego is too monstrous to be reined in.  Warren and Bloomberg should seriously consider getting  out.

Biden was always going to be the nominee the minute he announced his candidacy.  The field never should have been as big as it was in the primary season.

This Is One Reason Why I Won't Give a Dime to Her Anymore

I know Elizabeth Warren is not going to be the nominee for president, and this fucking pandering to a bunch of mentally ill, narcissistic, and perverted people will NOT win her votes.  She also supports cheating in sports:

Did Elizabeth Warren Lie About Her Teaching Career?

In the past few days, stories have come out in the media that have accused the presidential candidate of changing her story as to why she left her part-time teaching position as a speech pathologist in the early seventies.

I can tell you why:  It makes for a juicier story to say you were "fired" because a principal said you were pregnant and hired somebody else.  If that were really true, she'd have sued like others did for sex discrimination.  After all, sex was and remains a protected characteristic under federal and state law, though if Warren had her way, "sex" would no longer exist in the Civil Rights Act, which means women would be legally erased to make room for transvestites and crossdressers.  Laws later on passed that protected pregnant women from discrimination, but even so, it's Warren's word against a principal who has since died as to how she was supposedly "let go."

Furthermore, she didn't have "post-probationary" status, misnamed "tenure," which doesn't exist in public education, so a principal could let her go for any reason or no reason.  I personally think she is lying her ass off about why she left her teaching job.  Most women in that era who were pregnant left voluntarily from the labor force because they could afford to quit.  Most married women who had children did NOT work in the labor force in the early 1970s.  Their husbands made enough money so in most situations these women didn't have to work.  This was still during the era of the "family wage."  It was only a few years later, in the mid-1970s, that companies decided to screw over male employees by paying them less as more women joined the labor force.  Companies could get two workers for the price of one.    The trend  accelerated during the Reagan years with the salvo against unions, instigated by the PATCO firings, with ruinous trade agreements, and with the outsourcing of jobs to cheap labor countries.

And then, when the truth came out about the school district, far from wanting to terminate her,  actually offered to EXTEND her contract which she declined with documented proof this was the case, Warren still couldn't come clean as to her story.  She was assisted by some supporters such as this one who weren't even alive during that era and who wrote silly stories about other women who DID sue their districts when fired as "proof" this situation was the case with Warren, but Warren didn't bother suing.  In other words, she fucking lied about her teaching career.   She didn't work another year because she wanted to stay home with her baby, standard operating procedure with most women of that era.  She likely realized teaching simply wasn't for her and the pregnancy gave her an "out."   In addition, she was hired on an "emergency credential" and for whatever reason she didn't want to take the credits to have a clear credential.  The bottom line is this:  she wasn't fired, let alone fired over her pregnancy.  Her pregnancy had nothing to do with anything.  And no, school districts don't come out with minutes of their meetings with weasel words to save face--it was much less common back then to get rid of teachers they didn't want because most administrators were professionals and felt firing teachers would upset school morale.  Not nearly the case these days.  Teachers are tossed out into the street all the time, whether post-probationary or not.

Warren should have shut up about this to begin with.  I don't know why she ever brought it up.  Did she think the truth would never surface because her principal died?  It doesn't work that way.

Oh, This "Likability" Bullshit

Now presumed presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren is going through what Hillary Clinton did for years.  Now she is not "likable."

This fucking country is totally backward when it comes to women.  Completely and totally backward.  It is still mired in the 1950s bullshit that women's "hormones" prevent them from being leaders of any kind.  Never mind the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.  There are women governors, Nevada has more women in its legislature than men, women are making more inroads in federal offices, and that's for starters.  The plain unvarnished truth is women have been heading countries and empires for centuries, if not thousands of years, if one includes monarchies. The civilizations didn't die because women headed them.

We have a very sexist country in the United States.  Donald Trump's supporters are largely fueled by it (and racism).  This man had no business being anywhere near being a presidential candidate let alone president given he had absolutely NO elected experience, only that he was a media darling and a buddy of Jeff Zucker's.  Zucker, as I have noted previously, was a longtime friend of Trump's going back to Trump's days on the hit NBC show The Apprentice.  The problem is running a country is not a reality TV show--it is reality, and Trump has been a massive, massive failure in this venue.

We have had third world countries that have elected women, and it appears every other country in the world will have had a woman elected president or prime minister before this backward country ever does. It might even be more likely there won't be a United States before a woman is ever allowed to be president. It appears white men in particular have a phobia about this, and it is stupid.

She gave a speech today at the American Constitution Convention. Among her remarks she ripped Donald Trump apart:

It seems she is just a little too acquiescent to the same old Beltway bullshit as the rest of them.

As somebody in the comments noted, she would never have been allowed into the Senate in the first place if the elites thought she was any kind of real threat to them at all.

Bernie Sanders looks better and better all the time, but some commenters thought he was just as politically toothless as Warren.

The Democratic party has been a sad joke for so long these little hissy fits provide comedic relief for us "outside the beltway" types that recognize defeating capitalism (not reforming it) is requisite to any improvement in conditions. That the self censoring parameters of discussion is so banal is depressing and is really just a waste of everyone's time. Democratic National Convention Day 2: Warren, Clinton

It was kind of anti-climatic after some great speeches last night. The main speakers were Senate candidate and Harvard Law professor Elizabeth Warren and former president Bill Clinton.

Warren gave a good if not particularly memorable speech. I wish her well and think she would do a great job in the Senate as a REAL Democrat and not one of those Third Way fakers, but she is awfully low key. I am not sure she will be able to defeat incumbent Scott Brown, who isn't one of those idiot extremists who have polluted most of the Republican Party.

Bill Clinton, after a shaky start with a hoarse voice, gave a good speech. He always does. I seriously doubt he was reading from a TelePrompTer. However, Bill Clinton has a LOT to answer for, and I don't mean those bogus scandals. He has to answer for NAFTA, Glass-Steagall repeal, welfare "reform," and the other Third Way triangulating bullshit that may have helped him and the country in the short term, but have helped to worsen the economy in ways that have teetered this country on the brink of disaster. ALL of the presidents from Reagan on out have a lot to answer for with their continuation of neoliberal policies that were rooted in the crackpot economic "philosophy" of Milton Friedman. I have written about how he was lucky to be cremated and scattered over San Francisco Bay, for if he hadn't, I'd have done to his grave what a dog does to a fire hydrant.

I cried "bullshit" when Clinton went off on that cliche that the old economy will never come back but we have to create new ones. WHERE? There aren't any. We HAVE to bring back manufacturing and tariff the hell out of imports. The alternative is the complete hollowing out of the American economy and a wholesale race to the bottom.

However, he talked far too long. I suspect this will be his last convention speech, for he was shaking like he has Parkinson's and does not look very healthy.* He was in good form mentally, rattling off statistic after statistic, as long as you try to forget his own neoliberal bent. He's always been a good speaker, at least since his flop nominating speech in 1988 where the crowd made "cut" gestures when he ran overtime nominating Mike Dukakis.

Clinton ended the speech after around 45 minutes. Of course the crowd ate it up. A little charisma goes a long way in this business. Since he has a LOT of charisma and a lot of intellect to boot, it goes even farther.

Don't get me wrong: I was a big defender of the Clintons when they were being sabotaged by the fascists in the Republican Party. I like Clinton a lot, have met him a few times, and admire his considerable intelligence. I would, however, have appreciated if he would admit some of his policies were not in the best interests of the country. You have noticed, however, that Obama has been free of those far right tactics which plagued Clinton (and Gore). That's because there has been so much infiltration of the party by the neolibs bent on implementing (former and current) Republican policies and the kowtowing to the elites by those NOT of a neoliberal bent in exchange for campaign funds that a brazen coup attempt is no longer necessary. Infiltrating a major political party and Citizens United were all that were necessary. No more silly hearings, no more silly impeachments.

*--I haven't much followed reports of Clinton's health problems. He apparently doesn't suffer from Parkinson's, at least I gather that from a report some three years ago although rumors swirled that he did. He's awfully shaky for somebody that relatively young who doesn't have it. Of course the quacks in the vegan movement were pleased as punch he decided to adopt such a nutball diet thinking he would live longer. There is no evidence at all being vegan or vegetarian increases life expectancy or makes one "healthier." (I won't touch on the idiotic animal "rights" crap argument or the equally nonsensical environmental "argument," both of which are fairly new "arguments" of the vegan/vegetarian cult.) No unnatural diet is a panacea for health issues. However, people who peddle this quackery for a living are doing just fine pushing unfounded solutions to health problems.
