There is NO such thing as "gender" equality. It is SEX equality. "Gender" is NOT sex; it refers ONLY to sex role stereotypes. And when you realize gender IS sex role stereotypes--and "gender" is a word that needs to be purged from the dictionary because it has been misused and conflated with sex--it IS the reason there is a divide. When you believe women are only good for screwing, popping out babies, and being a domestic servant, you believe in GENDER. Feminists--real ones, not the fake "third-wave" type who are not feminists at all--are in favor of ABOLISHING sex roles--"gender." When your writers cannot even understand the distinction between sex and sex roles, they have no business writing these kinds of articles.
Feminists made a gigantic mistake in the late 1970s in replacing the terms "sex roles" and "sex-role stereotypes" with the word "gender," a word that had previously been used only in linguistics. Giant mistake. The word needs to go because of its constant misuse.

So What Is This Upcoming March About?
I am not really sure what the march (or marches, since this is nationwide) is supposed to achieve. I am concerned that it will not be seen as serious.
I may go to the local one in Ashland Saturday, but I am wary it will be like the "occupy" protests that were nothing except pet issues like marijuana or trans crap.
At least this article got the Miss America protests right:
The organizers should have just not bothered with the pink hat shit. Women have a problem as it is being taken seriously.
We really don't need this shit.
It sounds like a group of those goofy "third-wave" "feminists" put this together.

At least this article got the Miss America protests right:
Yet because the idea of a burning bra was so lurid, it eclipsed the fact that in the 1960s, women couldn’t get a credit card without a husband’s signature, couldn’t serve on juries in all 50 states, weren’t allowed to study at some of the nation’s Ivy League schools, couldn’t get a prescription for birth control pills if they were unmarried, were paid 59 cents for every dollar that men earned and could easily be fired from a job if they got pregnant. Among other outrages.
Feminists were people who fought those inequalities. But thanks to a stunt, they’ve been called bra-burners for decades. Even Betty Friedan, author of “The Feminine Mystique” and mother of the movement, objected to what she called the “bra-burning, anti-man, politics-of-orgasm school” of feminism.
Sorry, knitters. I know the pink hats with pussycat ears y’all are knitting for next week’s march are totally clever and cute and fun. They’re a smart and snarky middle finger to the incoming predator in chief, who somehow managed to win the presidency despite openly bragging about grabbing women by their genitals.
The organizers should have just not bothered with the pink hat shit. Women have a problem as it is being taken seriously.

Nothing New Under the Sun
The "left" has always been more sexist than the right. They are just more clever at disguising their hatred for women.
It was the abusive treatment by men on the left which helped precipitate the women's movement in the late 1960s-early 1970s. It was in part an outgrowth of the so-called "sexual revolution" that, far from helping women, made for even more easy sexual access and abuse from men. These guys haven't changed at all over the years. They tried to kick out feminists--real ones--over pornography and prostitution by claiming they were "prudes" and "antisex," but they haven't been completely successful because the harms of both are impossible to ignore. It is impossible to ignore human rights abuses.
The problem is with the notion of "social libertarianism" which too many on the "left" support. "Libertarianism" is a fraud, no matter if it is in the realm of the social sphere or in economics. Actions have consequences.
Now on the ropes, the "left" is trying desperately to silence women, especially feminists, over the bogus issue of "transgenderism," which seeks to annihilate the rights of half of the human race. Since women number literally in the billions of people, not to mention the billions of men who also oppose this garbage of crossdressing as "gender identity," this will also be a lost cause for the "left."
What this writer says, and it is accurate, is that the "left" is trying to use this as a "wedge" issue" to silence women:
They will try to purge women, but the health risks will come out, the lawsuits against doctors, drug companies, and parents will accelerate, and transgenderism too will be seen as the human rights abuse that it really is.

What this writer says, and it is accurate, is that the "left" is trying to use this as a "wedge" issue" to silence women:
Transgenderism bastardises the core feminist insight that "woman" is a politically defined social category generated by male violence and the exclusion, expropriation and colonisation of female human beings. Rendered as a Leftist wedge issue, this insight becomes the distorted proposition that "woman" is a flexible human "identity" with which any individual might associate themselves - even fully-grown rational male human beings.
Rather than being a designator of subordinated social class membership, "woman" is a feeling that can swell in any man's breast. Acting on this feeling, he might adopt sex-stereotyped clothing and behaviours, and others must hold these caricatured displays in high regard. Female pronouns must be used, and laws and policies must be changed to newly recognise women, not as an historically vulnerable social group, but as the product of an individual man's inner thoughts and feelings.
The Leftist purge of women who refuse publicly to declare allegiance to such ideas of transgenderism is proceeding apace. It takes the form of the "no-platforming" of feminists at speaking events, the petitioning of conference venues to drop bookings from feminist groups, the public harassment and ridicule of dissenters, and lobbying for women to be removed from jobs and positions of public profile.
They will try to purge women, but the health risks will come out, the lawsuits against doctors, drug companies, and parents will accelerate, and transgenderism too will be seen as the human rights abuse that it really is.
It Is a Messed Up World Indeed
when a man in drag is celebrated as a "woman of the year" while a woman who merely says the truth such men in drag are men is censored.
The postmodern movement is degenerate and crazy, and the attempted censoring of longtime feminist and writer Germaine Greer is proof.
Today's so-called feminists who think that men in dresses are women are not feminists; instead, they are chickenshits trying to curry favor with men.
The author is right wing in beliefs, but he is correct here:
Transgenderism is one of the most sexist concepts ever to come down the pike.
Greer has been involved in feminism long before these protesters were even born. People cannot support women's rights and at the same time support some batshit crazy movement of mostly sexual fetishists that seek to obliterate women's rights.
Petition in support of Germaine Greer's right to speak is here.

But to the self-styled guardians of morality on increasingly loopy campuses, any criticism of transgenderism is tantamount to blasphemy. Alarmingly, Cardiff’s feminist students are running the campaign to shut Greer down. The petition for her lecture to be cancelled was started by the student union women’s officer, who says Greer’s views have ‘no place in feminism’. What a spoilt, ungrateful generation, hilariously unaware that their very ability to speak their minds and rouse some rabble is down to decades of intellectual and social agitation by people like Greer. She helped give them a voice; they try to silence hers.

I Am Glad Somebody Has Called Out the "T's" Bullshit
It has nothing to do with "hate" to refuse to feed a tiny number of people a delusion and to call out the bastardization of the term "gender" which is in fact synonymous with "sex" and has nothing to do with stereotyped behavior or the desire to playact sex roles.
It's very fashionable now for many of the 99.99999-percent of the population who are not "transgender" or whatever to feed this tiny minority that their delusions are in fact normal. In fact, it is very brave indeed to call out this bullshit of men trying to "crash" the feminist movement by claiming to be something they are not and can never be.
No, "transsexuals" or "transgenders" shouldn't be treated like shit in terms of being denied jobs or housing accommodations and certainly shouldn't be threatened in any way, but they aren't what they claim to be and there is no way in hell I am going to feed the delusion. Nobody else should, either.
More than a few of the second-wave feminists are also calling bullshit on the current perversion of the term "gender." As noted in the article, a surgically mutilated man in drag is no more a woman than a white person can himself or herself be black or be another minority group. Physical characteristics are immutable.
It has nothing to do with critics of this being "older"--it has everything to do with the fact that claiming these people are "female" when they are not and never will be is feeding a lie. Embracing stereotypes is also reactionary. Undergoing cosmetic surgery and hormone therapy in order to act out a sex stereotype is reactionary.
The criticism is long overdue, folks. Younger people need to get with a program and stop catering to a tiny minority's delusions of what "sex" they think they are.

More Cheese to Go With the Whine
Yet another "feminist" has written a book talking about the "big lies" women are being told, including the "lie" that one can put off motherhood indefinitely.
As if anybody truly gives a shit. It's just more whining from the one percent while the rest of us are falling into poverty and despair.
This article could have been written back in 1975; the "issues" are identical but increasingly irrelevant today given the massive income inequality in this country. It appears far too many self-styled feminists identify with the one-percenters in the elite, MALE-dominated fields, than with virtually all other women. I guess these people think they are better than those shitty secretaries, housewives, teachers, nurses, or any other women who dare to still work in traditional female occupations, to say nothing of those who are unemployed. Elitism has always been the Achilles' heel of the women's movement, and feminists deserve every bit of criticism for it.
The worsening living standards of the 99 percent of the people in this country is what feminists should be devoted to combating, not spending time whining about "biological clocks" and "having it all."

It's Sexism, Period
There is no point giving this a contrived term. Women have ALWAYS been judged by their appearance. They can't do anything right. They can't be simply themselves regardless of "beauty," body size, aging, whatever.
Men are hardly ever judged by their looks. They can look like shit and nobody cares.
Women can't do that and not be severely judged.
This double standard is one of the most obvious ways women are still treated like second-class citizens in our society.

_____
Of course major social unrest is on the horizon, as leaders from around the world won't do squat about the economy and joblessness.
_____
Yet another man tries to con women into going back into the home--despite right-wing economic policies gutting unions and forcing women into the workforce--by whining about the allegedly "terrible" legacies of feminism.
Apparently "promiscuity" causes depression in women, but no mention is made of men's psychological problems when THEY screw around.

"Feminism" is in One Hell of a Shape
if the issue of sleep is considered important to the cause.
It's getting into stupidity. Here we have an economy that is in the tank, with no relief in sight thanks to an unwilling Congress and White House to really do what is needed. Women are even more negatively affected, but what do these elitist "feminists" think is important? That women with their glamorous "careers" trying to "balance" their "home and work life" or single "career" women get enough sleep.
I don't want to trivialize the importance of sleep, but there are so many more pressing matters out there.
Those of us who are unemployed often sleep too much because to be awake is to let ourselves be depressed over just how bad the economy is.
The writer does have a point about the diet industry and the pressure on women (mostly) to stay slim in order to fit into clothes which are created for preteens or teenagers.
But tell the food fascists and "doctors" who peddle the obesity drivel that. They, too, are slaves to the twisting of Calvinism that deprivation is virtue.

I Totally Agree Feminists Should Focus on Bread-and-Butter Issues
and less on identity politics. After all, the REAL divide in this country is between the tiny number of haves, and the masses of have nots, including an increasing number of people on the verge of slipping into the have-not territory.
Wasting time talking about "home vs. career," "job sharing," and other such stupidity only contributes to the perception, based largely on fact, feminists are elitists without a clue of how the vast majority of women--and men--live. The huge majority are not in glamorous, i.e., traditionally male-dominated, "careers," but merely have jobs which pay the bills or did have jobs.
Job insecurity is THE big issue of our time, and our politicians seem not to care at all. Why should they? They are representing the top 1 percent of income "earners" in this country.

Miscellaneous Commentary
If a daughter of a man who has trafficked in the exploitation of women, albeit "legitimately," can call herself a feminist, why can't Sarah Palin?
The blog post makes a lot of good points about what litmus test, if any, qualifies somebody to be a "feminist."
I never had any problem with Palin identifying with feminism. After all, despite her abortion stance and a couple of other things, her life and career have closely paralleled the non-traditional family lifestyle. She has basically lived the feminist ideal of taking on a non-traditional career and doing it without having to rely on a man to achieve what she wants.
As for Christie Hefner, she wouldn't be where she is without her daddy and his money. By traditional feminist standards, she didn't get to where she is on merit. She is a classic nepotism hire, first and foremost. The only reason anybody even cares about her at all is because of who her daddy is. It isn't reasonable to expect her to have killed the golden goose of Playboy Enterprises by having ditched the t&a and turned it into some kind of feminist think tank. Of course she stepped down from the company early this year to devote herself to other causes.

The Bridge to the 13th Century
Movements by "evangelicals" to try and force their female members back into the home and worship the almighty male of the household have come in fits and spurts since the 1960s, and this "movement" called "complementarianism" is no exception. The term "complementarianism" is just another term for sexism, male supremacy, patriarchy, and other words describing the idea women are good for only two things, screwing and having babies, and they shouldn't aspire to anything else. The Bible is used as the excuse for women being second-class citizens. Of course, they claim women ARE equal, just "different" and must have different roles, which of course are inferior to men's.
The kicker of this "movement" is many of its "leaders" are themselves women who are in leadership roles and are even making money to try and push their followers back into the kitchen.
The hidden message in all of this is men are such fragile, insecure creatures they feel they must be superior over somebody. Of course this means women. And if they don't feel superior, it is up to their wives to go through contortion acts to con their wimpy or insecure husbands that they are the heads of their households. Well, screw their insecurity, I say.

Political Commentary
It isn't always true that with age comes wisdom, as demonstrated by feminist Robin Morgan.
Morgan must surely remember back during the second wave of feminism many feminists were Republicans; granted, they weren't necessarily right-wing but more of the moderate variety, but they were there and there were many.
I don't think being a feminist means one belongs to a particular political party; if this were the case, then third parties would be the way for feminists to go.
Getting back to Sarah Palin, one can criticize her policies without making some kind of litmus test for feminist ideals. She is definitely an example of a woman who has made it in a man's world, and that's regardless of party.

Presidential Notes II.
For a feminist, Hillary is trying to play the gender card.
Which is full of irony, of course. If she hadn't been married to a former president, would she have been elected to the United States Senate? Would she have run at all? This despite the fact she was a highly-successful lawyer in Arkansas. The husband card is a little hard to deny.
Same is true in her presidential run. EVERYBODY knows, whether they say it out loud or not, that Clinton is trying to capitalize on her husband's administration and trying to make her candidacy a restoration of sorts. And, as I've mentioned, the campaign is too cynical with her being married to a former president and he's term-limited.
Irony is the staple of life when it comes to politics.
_____
Two years after his overrated keynote speech, which posed no threat whatsoever to the great orator Mario Cuomo, the Audacity of Hype tries a (relatively) low-key tact in his act.
The media still hype him up, however.
